One year ago, Scott and I launched the Racecast Weather website. The number of visitors we've had in 2015 has been phenomenal, and we greatly appreciate everyone who has used and shared our forecasts. Knowing that we're providing a valuable service to race fans motivates us to improve and expand our efforts. To better serve you in 2016, here's what we will be adding to Racecast Weather in the coming year:
- We're now on Instagram! Our race forecasts will be posted there, in addition to our usual Twitter and Facebook feeds. Be sure to follow all our social media feeds using the links on the right. If you like our forecasts and weather updates, please share them.
- We will be creating video weather briefings in advance of some of the bigger racing events, and posting them on our YouTube channel. A video briefing will basically be a recorded version of what we post here on the blog, with a little more graphical information added. The first event that will have a video briefing will be the Rolex 24. We're initially planning on doing video briefings for the Bathurst 12 Hour, 12 Hours of Sebring, the Indy 500, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. We may add more events, depending on what kind of response and viewership we get on them.
- We plan on using a brand new weather analysis software package called WSV3. Most of the benefit from this will come behind the scenes as Scott and I make our forecasts and keep you updated on weather conditions at a race, but it will also be used for our live radar feed. We're really excited about using this new weather nerd tool.
- Our race forecasts will be featured in the race previews at The Apex. Formerly NextGen Indy, The Apex is a great one-stop source for racing news from all the major racing series. As we did last year, we'll continue to partner with NASportsCar.com to post our forecasts on their site, and with the Slipstream Network to provide an audio forecast on their podcasts. We are also working on forming a new and very exciting partnership that we hope to announce in the next few weeks!
Scott and I do this simply because we love weather and we love racing. We take this seriously and try to do the best we can. But expanding our services and improving our website costs money, and preparing our forecasts takes time. So we have added some ads to the website to help recoup some of the expenses. Hopefully they're not too intrusive, but each click on them helps us out a little. We'd greatly appreciate it.
We've updated our forecast schedule for 2016 at the link at the top of the website. However, we do take requests! If there is a race that is not on our schedule that you'd like to have a site-specific forecast for, we'd be happy to do that for you. Scott will be kicking off our 2016 forecast schedule with the Roar Before the 24. I'll be covering the Rolex 24 and the Bathurst 12 Hour.
We're ready to go for a great year of racing! May all the races you attend this year have beautiful weather. And if they don't, we're here for you.
