By: Harris Cooley Mostly clear weather can be expected for race day with minimal cloud coverage and mild temperatures. Wind speeds will generally stay low with occasionally moderate gusts as the terrain will have an impact on its sustainability. Rain chances are slim to none for tomorrow as well. By: Harris Cooley This weekend is shaping up for some volatile weather with chances for rain Saturday afternoon and slight chances Sunday. Higher pressures are expected to lay over the site for the weekend, but afternoon convection mixed with converging surface winds could lead to some pop-up storms in the late afternoon/evening. Wind speeds will be low and the direction will vary as the surrounding mountains in the area affect the direction.
Temps will be moderate in the afternoon leaving track temps higher than ideal but still quite manageable, especially after the US Grand Prix's track temps. I will provide an update on the rain chances as we get closer to the weekend. A metric graphic is pasted below... By: Harris Cooley The weather is going to be beautiful in Austin this weekend with sunny skies and plenty of wind. Conditions may end up being a bit tough for the drivers' as track temps will be hot and winds will be quite gusty. A deep low pressure will be forming over the mid-latitudes of the US which is what is going to be causing these increased sustained wind speeds. Keeping an eye on track temps as well as wind speeds will be the two main factors for teams to be watching for.
I myself will be on-site to report any changing conditions. A metric graphic is posted below... by Scott Martin. Sorry for the late post as I have been dealing with computer issues and other issues. No rain and cool temperatures can be expected out at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, along with a good breezy at times and plenty of sunshine. I'll have a more in-depth forecast update later tonight.
By: Harris Cooley A converging boundary east of the area will be keeping rain chances high for Friday with scattered showers throughout the day. The weather clears up for Saturday and Sunday morning with a slight increase in wind speeds as the pressure gradient remains tightened over the region. Sunday afternoon has a chance for another rain boundary to move through the site and bring scattered showers as a Low is expected to form east of the site. Updates to come and a metric graphic is posted below...

It turns out that the weather will be beautiful for Petit Le Mans, and the remains of Ian will have no impact. See the graphics below for the details. I am sorry for the bad forecasts I made earlier this week. In my first forecast discussion, I mentioned two possible scenarios with Ian, one that kept it close to the Atlantic Coast, and one that brought it inland across Georgia. I went with the second scenario, and I was wrong. Ian crossed Florida, went back over the ocean, then tracked into the Carolinas. So my bad forecast was good news for everyone at Road Atlanta, and I'm very glad that everyone can enjoy the race with excellent weather. I just have to watch it with some egg on my face. |
