No surprises are in store for the weather during the 24 Hours of Daytona. Dry weather is expected through the race, with mostly sunny skies today followed by clouds generally increasing through tonight and tomorrow morning. There is a chance of rain that will arrive Sunday night, but it will not arrive until long after the end of the race. By Doug Schneider The weather for the Rolex 24 continues to look great with today's forecast update.
Today, a few light showers are possible as a cold front approaches the area. Temperatures will be quite warm, with a high near 80 degrees. The cold front will move through tonight. Thursday will be much cooler behind the cold front, and it will be breezy as well with gusts up to 25 mph at times. The remainder of the event will see sunny skies and a gradual warming trend as winds shift to a southerly direction by Sunday. There will be a low chance of light showers arriving Sunday night. This timing has been consistent for the past few days, but I will keep an eye on it in case it moves up into Sunday afternoon and potentially affect the end of the race. By Doug Schneider Good news - the weather looks great for the 24 Hours of Daytona this year. After a cold front moves through on Wednesday night, large area of high pressure will be moving across the Southeast Thursday through Sunday, keeping dry weather and mostly sunny skies in the forecast.
The only chance I rain that I can see at this moment is on Wednesday, and even that looks very marginal. A cold front will be approaching during the day, and crossing Daytona at night, so what little rain may come with this front could be mostly on Wednesday night. There will be a couple practice sessions that day, but I don't expect that there will be enough rain to have any impact - just a few sprinkles or light showers. Behind the cold front on Thursday, the weather will get quite a bit colder, with breezy and gusty winds. Gusts of 25 to 30 mph can be expected at times. North winds at 10-15 mph will continue into Friday, which will keep temperatures cool, but at least it will be sunny all day. On Saturday, high pressure will move off the east coast, shifting winds to a more southerly direction, which will help warm temperatures into the 70s for the start of the race. An upper level low pressure trough will approach on Sunday, but any rain with it is expected to hold off until Monday. It will result in some increasing clouds on Sunday afternoon, but temperatures should still be able to rise into the mid 70s by the end of the race. I plan to have the next forecast update posted on Wednesday, unless there's a major change in the forecast. by Scott Martin FRIDAY: A cold front will be approaching from the north but will remain well out of the area for the day. We'll have a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day with rain being unlikely at this point. Temperatures at 9 am will be right around 60 degrees and will rise into the lower 70s for the daytime high. Winds will be out of the west-southwest at 5-10 MPH throughout the day.
SATURDAY: The cold front will move through the area but it will mostly be a dry front. Clouds will build and there will be just enough moisture that we'll have to add a very small chance of a passing shower or two. That small shower chance will persist through the entire day. 9 am temperatures will be in the lower 60s and will only climb into the upper 60s for the high. Temperatures will steadily drop throughout the evening and will be around 60 degrees at 9 pm for the end of the racing day. Winds will be out of the northwest to north at 2-10 MPH. Chance of rain for now is at 20%. SUNDAY: The cold front will be south of the area over the extreme southern parts of South Florida. Skies will start off with more clouds than sun but will eventually become partly cloudy by the afternoon. 10 am temperatures will be in the mid-60s and will only climb into the upper 60s for the daytime high. Winds will be out of the east-northeast to northeast at 5-10 MPH. by Scott Martin 1st Forecast for Roar Before the Rolex 24:
