Looking back at how I forecasted the conditions at Daytona International Speedway for the Roar Before The Rolex 24, I am pretty satisfied. There is a lot of green boxes on this chart (18), but struggled a little with high temperatures. I believe if the National Weather Service sensor was at the track than at the airport, I believe I would have even more green boxes. Still, the data I was using with what I was thinking that the temperatures would have been just a tick warmer. Fortunately I only missed by 4 degrees on my worst miss, and that's not bad.
As far as the rainfall, I had thought during the beginning of the week that rain would be an issue throughout the weekend. My first forecast I even had 50% possibility of rainfall on Sunday. It was a close call for Friday and Saturday as well. 0.01 inches of rain fell on Friday morning, and a trace fell before the end of Saturday evening. If the airport hadn't measured a trace, the forecast would have been blown. As you can see that the forecasted percentages for Sunday dropped throughout the week, so that shows that forecasts can't really be known for sure until you're a day or two out.
Even though I am pleased with these results, I'll always strive to be better. Doug will have the forecast for the Rolex 24 starting on January 24th. Hope you have a great week.
