A cold front moved through Toronto yesterday, bringing showers to the city during the evening hours. Unfortunately, the rain might not be done as there will be a secondary cold front and upper level trough that will still have to move over the area today. But once these move through, there should be some really nice weather for the Honda Indy Toronto.
Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are expected across southern Ontario today, and I'd put the chance of one affecting the track at 50%. The most likely time period for showers appears to be from noon to 5 pm. Rain amounts are not expected to be very heavy, as there will not be a large amount of instability or moisture in the atmosphere. Around one or two tenths of an inch will be the most likely range of amounts if a shower does hit the track. I don't think the action on the track will be interrupted by rain very much today. There will be some sunshine in the morning, which will bring temperatures into the upper 70s today.
The upper level trough will move across the region tonight and Saturday morning. The chance of rain will shift well east by sunrise Saturday morning, but there may be some residual clouds that linger into the morning. As the trough continues east, drier air will move in and clouds will be decreasing. By the afternoon, skies will be mostly sunny. With high pressure centered over Michigan providing a northwest wind, highs will be a little cooler, in the mid 70s.
The high pressure area will move into New England on Sunday, bringing winds around to the south. This will bring some warmer temperatures, with highs reaching the lower 80s. A low pressure system will be approaching from the west, but the rain associated with it will hold off until Monday. It looks like the weather will be ideal for the main event on Sunday afternoon.
