The weather this week looks like it will cooperate for the daily practice sessions at IMS. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday night, but the overnight timing of this chance should not have an impact on practice sessions. At this time, I expect that all sessions should be able to be completed without interruption from weather.
Qualifying may not be as fortunate. Saturday looks good with mostly sunny skies expected and temperatures in the lower 80s. Winds may be a factor on Saturday, as they will be between 10 and 20 mph from the southwest.
On Sunday, a low pressure system is expected to track across the northern Great Plains and the Upper Mississippi River Valley. This will draw more moisture and instability into Indiana, bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms. The specifics of timing are not yet in focus, but it appears that the afternoon hours will have a better chance than the morning. It does not appear to be a sustained or heavy rainfall, if it occurs at all, and the chance of rain is 40%, so for now I have the Impact as Low, which means that there could be some short delays or adjustments to the schedule on Sunday. Another impact on Sunday will likely be winds, which will be blowing from the southwest at 15 to 25 mph. This could pose a real challenge for teams and drivers to deal with.
