By Doug Schneider The weather continues to look great for Barber IndyCar weekend. Today will start mostly sunny, then high clouds will spread into the area in the afternoon. Some clouds will continue to linger through Saturday, but no rain is expected. Sunday will be mostly sunny as the clouds exit. Expect warm temperatures in the lower to mid 80s each day.
By Doug Schneider The weather looks great for this year's edition of the Alabama Indy Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park. As I have attended this race several times in the past, I can tell you that it really seems to be affected by rain nearly every year. But I am confident that it will stay dry throughout the event this year.
The pattern setting up later this week across the Southeast will feature a large high pressure ridge centered over Georgia, which will be nearly stationary through the weekend. There will be some systems that affect the Plains, and residual cloud cover from those systems will give partly sunny skies on Friday and Saturday. But the ridge will act to block and weaken any precipitation before it reaches Alabama. Temperatures will be warm each day, with highs in the lower to mid 80s. I'll have another forecast update posted later in the week, hopefully without much change from this forecast. By Doug Schneider Not much change to the Long Beach forecast today, just lowered temperatures a degree or two, and added a little more fog. This morning, we are seeing cloudy skies and fog in the area. The fog should lift later this morning but clouds will likely linger through the day. More sunshine is expected on Saturday afternoon, after some initial morning fog. Sunday looks pretty similar to Saturday.
By Doug Schneider Nice weather is expected for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, fairly typical for the area. The pattern will be a building high pressure ridge through the weekend, resulting in greater sunshine and warming temperatures each day. The start of activities on Friday morning may be dampened by fog and low clouds, but by afternoon, the clouds should lift and leave mostly sunny skies the rest of the day. Saturday could have some fog to start the day, but it should lift within a few hours of sunrise. The chance of morning fog is lower on Sunday, but it can't be ruled out entirely. Temperatures will be pleasant through the event, from the upper 60s on Friday to lower 70s on Sunday.
By: Stephen McCoy A new track brings new conditions for the drivers and crews to face for this weekend. Above average temperatures on Friday will give way to cooler, breezier conditions for the remainder of the forecast period after a cold front passes through southern California Saturday. Light westerly winds along with light cloud cover will be present Friday morning, with both increasing ahead of the approaching surface front. Overnight temperatures will be fairly stable and similar to Friday, however the passing of the cold front will cause maximum temperatures on Saturday to cool around 10 degrees as cooler air moves in from the west/northwest. Skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy, potentially with virga falling beneath the cloud deck. This is due to the dry, desert-like conditions of the local area keeping any amount of precipitation from reaching the surface. The pick-up of winds behind the front are expected to bring some stronger wind gusts for the afternoon, which could result in patchy areas of blowing dust. There is potential for similar conditions on Sunday, but with cooler conditions near 70 now with the front fully passed through the region.
By Doug Schneider The weather looks great for the INDYCAR season opener on the Streets of St. Petersburg and the Albert Whitted Airport. High pressure will be over the western Atlantic Ocean to start the weekend, providing a warm southerly flow and mostly sunny skies on Friday. As a cold front approaches from the northwest, winds will pick up on Saturday, along with increasing clouds. A few light showers with this front will be in the St. Pete area late Saturday night, but the front is expected to pass through the area around daybreak. No impacts are expected to any of Sunday's on-track activity. Sunday will start off with some clouds, but dry air will build in, and by the time the race begins in the afternoon, it will be mostly sunny. Northwest winds of 10-20 mph can be expected during the race.
By Doug Schneider Overall, nice weather is likely for the 2024 INDYCAR season opener in St. Petersburg. Although there's a chance of showers or thunderstorms on Sunday, the chance is low and the impacts are likely to be minimal.
A cold front will move across Florida in the middle of the week, followed by high pressure that will build in late in the week. This high pressure area will provide nice conditions for racing on Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will be warm and skies will be mostly to partly sunny both days. Sunday is a little more uncertain as another cold front approaches from the northwest. Early indications are that the front will be losing its punch as to tracks southeast, and by the time it reaches St. Pete, any precipitation associated with it may have fallen apart or become scattered to isolated. If there are showers or storms in the St. Pete area on Sunday, they should be short-lived and scattered, so the chance of one at the track is low, only about 20%. I'll keep an eye on this system through the week, so check back for updates. By Doug Schneider The end of 2023 is upon us, and that means it's time for our annual gallery of the best photos combining our two favorite things - weather and racing. 2023 was a great season for race fans, with tons of action and excitement in IMSA, IndyCar, F1, and SRO World Challenge. We can't wait for the 2024 season to start, and we will be back in a few weeks with the forecast for the Roar Before the 24 at Daytona. You can see our full schedule of race forecasts in the link at the top of the page. We are making a couple changes for next year. Scott Martin is stepping down from our team due to a new job and time commitments. Scott helped me start Racecast Weather 9 years ago, and he will be greatly missed. As a result, we will not be forecasting for SRO World Challenge America races. However, we will continue to have forecast for SRO's IGTC races. Harris will continue to provide you with forecast for Formula One. Stephen will return and focus on forecasts for the IndyCar season. And I will be back with forecasts for all IMSA events. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks for following! |
