On Sunday, there is still a chance of a shower or thunderstorm developing in the afternoon. As of today, I expect that the coverage of showers and storms will be scattered enough that a dry day is more likely than a wet one at the Speedway, but I still don't have very high confidence about that. There will likely be a good amount of instability for storms to develop south of the Speedway, so the question is how far north they might develop. The Storm Prediction Center has a Marginal risk for severe storms on Sunday, so any storms that do develop could produce strong winds and hail.
By Doug Schneider Not a whole lot has changed today in regard to the weather that is expected for Indy 500 qualifying, but the chance of rain on Saturday is looking a little higher. There will be numerous showers around the Speedway tonight as a low pressure system moves across the area. I still expect that the best chance of rain will be in the morning - about a 40% chance, which may impact the morning practice sessions. Qualifying begins at 11 am, and it could be delayed depending on how fast the track can dry from rain overnight and the morning. There is a slight chance of showers and storms developing in the afternoon, but I would put the chance of that at 20%.
