By Doug Schneider The weather looks great for the INDYCAR season opener on the Streets of St. Petersburg and the Albert Whitted Airport. High pressure will be over the western Atlantic Ocean to start the weekend, providing a warm southerly flow and mostly sunny skies on Friday. As a cold front approaches from the northwest, winds will pick up on Saturday, along with increasing clouds. A few light showers with this front will be in the St. Pete area late Saturday night, but the front is expected to pass through the area around daybreak. No impacts are expected to any of Sunday's on-track activity. Sunday will start off with some clouds, but dry air will build in, and by the time the race begins in the afternoon, it will be mostly sunny. Northwest winds of 10-20 mph can be expected during the race.
By Doug Schneider Overall, nice weather is likely for the 2024 INDYCAR season opener in St. Petersburg. Although there's a chance of showers or thunderstorms on Sunday, the chance is low and the impacts are likely to be minimal.
A cold front will move across Florida in the middle of the week, followed by high pressure that will build in late in the week. This high pressure area will provide nice conditions for racing on Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will be warm and skies will be mostly to partly sunny both days. Sunday is a little more uncertain as another cold front approaches from the northwest. Early indications are that the front will be losing its punch as to tracks southeast, and by the time it reaches St. Pete, any precipitation associated with it may have fallen apart or become scattered to isolated. If there are showers or storms in the St. Pete area on Sunday, they should be short-lived and scattered, so the chance of one at the track is low, only about 20%. I'll keep an eye on this system through the week, so check back for updates. By: Harris Cooley We are back folks! We kick off the the 2024 Formula One season with beautiful weather as High pressure moves through during the first practice session. Northerly moderate winds are expected for Friday which could cause some issues with grip on the track as well as sandy conditions. Wind speeds die down Saturday and Sunday with clear skies and mild temps. These conditions should be favorable for the teams' first race of the season.
By Doug Schneider Click on images to enlarge Not much has changed in the expected weather for the Bathurst 12 Hour with today's forecast update. Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be in the area on Friday, with about a 50% chance of a storm moving over Mount Panorama. The chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms continues into Saturday and Sunday, with very little change in the pattern. There is a little less moisture and instability, so the chance of a storm at the circuit those days is about 30%. Lightning and a brief downpours will be the main impacts with any storms that move over the circuit.
I plan to have a forecast with the detailed weather conditions during the race posted before the race starts. Be sure to follow our X account for radar updates during the race - @RacecastWx. The pattern across Australia later this week will feature a high pressure ridge near the southern coast of Australia, across Tanzania to New Zealand. This will produce an easterly flow from the ocean to inland New South Wales. Moisture from the ocean running into the Blue Mountains will result in some afternoon showers and thunderstorms popping up each day, tracking west toward Bathurst. Friday is expected to have scattered coverage of showers and storms around Bathurst, due to instability being a little higher that day. Saturday and Sunday will have less coverage due to less instability, with only isolated showers and storms in the area. Temperatures will be warm each day, in the 80s F and upper 20s to near 30 C. For those of you in the United States, the Eastern Time Zone is 16 hours behind the time in Bathurst. The race is scheduled to begin at 5:45 AM Sunday Australian Eastern Daylight Time, which is 1:45 PM Saturday in the Eastern Standard Time zone. By Doug Schneider Click on images to enlarge The weather continues to look good for the Rolex 24. Warm temperatures can e expected today, with a high around 80 degrees. Clouds will gradually increase through the afternoon and evening as a cold front approaches from the northwest. This front could squeeze out a few light showers in the pre-dawn to mid morning hours. However, if there are any showers, only a few hundredths of an inch is expected. I don't think this will have a significant impact on the race. I can't entirely rule out lightning in the area, but the chance of it happening at the track is very low. Winds will pick up to 10 to 20 mph in the closing hours of the race, shifting to a west direction behind the cold front.
I'll be posting updates about the weather on our X account - @RacecastWx. By Doug Schneider Click on images to enlarge Not much has changed in the expected weather pattern for the Rolex 24. Overall, the weather is expected to be great, with mild temperatures and mostly dry conditions.
The one change I've made to the forecast is on Sunday. In my initial forecast, I mentioned a cold front moving through the area over the weekend, bringing chance of a sprinkle, but the chance of measurable rain has gone up slightly today. The chance of rain is still pretty low, and the amount of rain I'm expecting is only a couple hundredths of an inch. This should not have much impact on the race, but the timing could be interesting. The front and the showers associated with it are expected during the early afternoon, in the closing hours of the race. There may not be enough rain to even use wet tires, but it may be a challenging decision for teams to make near the end of the race. I plan to post a detailed forecast on Saturday morning, breaking down the weather through the race. I will also post updates during the race on our X account - @RacecastWx. A high pressure system will be located off the east coast of Florida through most of the week. This will provide partly to mostly sunny skies, and a south wind, which will mean mild temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. One uncertainty at this time is the chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday. There will be a cold front approaching from the north, but it is unclear how far south the front will get, and how much moisture will be available to produce rain. At this time, I think a slight shower or sprinkle is a possibility, but not enough to have much impact on the race. This could change as we get closer to the weekend, so check back for updates through the week. I have some family plans this week, but I should have an update posted no later than Thursday morning. |
