By: Stephen McCoy Conditions have remained mostly the same since the initial forecast for the GMR Grand Prix. We'll see an area of high pressure pass to the north of the region, with winds initially from the north/northeast on Thursday, shifting to the south/southeast by Saturday as the high moves towards the Atlantic. Expect mostly clear to partly cloudy skies during Thursday and Friday mornings, with mid-to-upper level moisture moving in for the afternoons and continuing into most of Saturday. A surface low pressure system will develop over the Plains Friday into Saturday, with a warm/stationary front extending to the east from the center. The front may cause some scattered showers over Iowa/western Illinois during the day on Saturday, and may reach central Indiana by Saturday evening. However, there isn't currently a threat for precipitation during the Grand Prix Saturday afternoon.
By Doug Schneider Not much change is needed from Monday's forecast for IMSA weekend at Mid-Ohio. The event is expected to remain rain-free, with cool temperatures as a large high pressure area will dominate the region.
Bring a jacket to the track on Friday and Saturday, as both days will start out quite chilly, with temperatures in the 40s around sunrise. Under abundant sunshine, temperatures will rise into the mid 60s on Friday, and upper 60s on Saturday - great conditions to spend outdoors watching awesome racing. Clouds will start to increase on Sunday due to an upper level disturbance that will be west of the region. High clouds will build through the day, but any rain with this system is expected to hold off until after sunset. I am still mentioning just a slight chance of showers on Sunday in case they arrive a little earlier, but I don't expect any impacts on the racing. By: Stephen McCoy Expect relatively stable conditions for this weekend's GMR Grand Prix, with air temperatures maxing out in the 60's each day under mostly cloudy skies.
For much of the weekend, we'll see high pressure present at the surface, building in from the west. The position of the center of the high to the west/northwest of central Indiana will cause winds from the north/northeast through Thursday and Friday, shifting to the southeast on Saturday as the high continues eastward. In the upper levels, a split flow blocking pattern will emerge beginning Thursday morning, leading to mostly clear skies. A slight shift in the winds to the west/southwest will cause some cloud cover during Thursday afternoon; similar conditions will be present for Friday. An upper level trough will allow a surface low pressure system to develop over the plains Friday into Saturday, with its warm front approaching the Midwest Saturday afternoon. Depending on the timing, the front could result in scattered showers in the area, especially in the late afternoon to evening. Upper level winds continuing from the west will cause mostly cloudy to overcast conditions through Saturday as they transport moisture lifted by the low over the region. By Doug Schneider Nice weather is expected at MId-Ohio for the IMSA weekend. There's some uncertainty regarding the timing of showers that could arrive Sunday night and Monday, but no impacts are expected at this time.
An upper level trough will be exiting to the east of Ohio early Friday, which will put north-central Ohio in a dry northwesterly flow. At the surface, high pressure will be building in from the west, producing a north wind that will keep temperatures cool despite abundant sunshine. After a chilly start to the day, afternoon highs will only reach the upper 60s. Saturday looks much the same, with maybe a few more high clouds and slightly warmer temperatures as the high shifts to the east. Most of Sunday will be very nice, with the warming trend continuing as highs will reach near 70. There will be increasing clouds through the day due to a low pressure system approaching from the west. At this time, the rain with this system is expected to hold off until Sunday night or Monday, so I don't expect any impacts on the Sunday afternoon racing. However, if the models shift the timing a little earlier, I may need to add a chance of rain with later forecast updates. Stay tuned. By: Harris Cooley We do not see a whole lot of change in the forecast this weekend other than a southerly wind shift for race day. Chances of rain are down with clear skies and gusty winds up to around 23 mph. Sustained wind speeds will stay near 9 mph, but the track temperature will be the biggest factor for this weekend.
We have seen races this season where the cooler temperatures have caused the cars to slip on some turns and struggle for grip. Softer tires might be the better call in this scenario, though we will see what each team goes with. It will make for an exciting race as always. A metric graphic is displayed below... By: Harris Cooley ![]() We are in for a beautiful weekend in Spain as higher pressures will keep the skies clear and wind speeds low. The mornings will be calm with increasingly gusty winds in the afternoons as the track is very close to the coast. Temperatures are a little warmer than the last few races which will help the drivers with grip around the track. We saw some slipping last weekend due to the mild temps, but the lack of cloud cover should help keep the track hot as well. Chances of rain are very low for this weekend as of now with high pressures expected to linger over the area through the weekend. It has been an exciting season so far and the weather for this weekend should just add to it! I will continue to watch for any changes and update you all. A metric graphic is displayed below... By; Harris Cooley Conditions have remained clear for race day tomorrow with sunny skies and light to moderate winds expected. The cooler temps could cause some grip issues for these drivers, but this is the only main obstacle other than the track itself. Wind gusts are expected to be occasionally strong which could present issues for the drivers as well.
These conditions will make for a beautiful day at the track. Higher pressures are lingering and will keep these conditions consistent throughout the race. A metric graphic is displayed below... |
