By Doug Schneider The weather continues to look great for Barber IndyCar weekend. Today will start mostly sunny, then high clouds will spread into the area in the afternoon. Some clouds will continue to linger through Saturday, but no rain is expected. Sunday will be mostly sunny as the clouds exit. Expect warm temperatures in the lower to mid 80s each day.
By Doug Schneider The weather looks great for this year's edition of the Alabama Indy Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park. As I have attended this race several times in the past, I can tell you that it really seems to be affected by rain nearly every year. But I am confident that it will stay dry throughout the event this year.
The pattern setting up later this week across the Southeast will feature a large high pressure ridge centered over Georgia, which will be nearly stationary through the weekend. There will be some systems that affect the Plains, and residual cloud cover from those systems will give partly sunny skies on Friday and Saturday. But the ridge will act to block and weaken any precipitation before it reaches Alabama. Temperatures will be warm each day, with highs in the lower to mid 80s. I'll have another forecast update posted later in the week, hopefully without much change from this forecast. By Doug Schneider Not much change to the Long Beach forecast today, just lowered temperatures a degree or two, and added a little more fog. This morning, we are seeing cloudy skies and fog in the area. The fog should lift later this morning but clouds will likely linger through the day. More sunshine is expected on Saturday afternoon, after some initial morning fog. Sunday looks pretty similar to Saturday.
By: Harris Cooley Strong southerly winds will be sweeping over the area as Low pressure moves out of the area. A frontal boundary will shift winds northerly by Saturday morning bringing rain and scattered thunderstorms to the region that morning. These storms should be cleared out by the afternoon as sunny skies and dry air follow behind. Sunday may have some lingering clouds in the morning but clearing out with calm winds by the afternoon.
Wind speeds may provide some volatility in racing for Friday and Saturday with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Sunday will likely have little impact on the racing as the weather clears up. A metric graphic is pasted below... By Doug Schneider Nice weather is expected for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, fairly typical for the area. The pattern will be a building high pressure ridge through the weekend, resulting in greater sunshine and warming temperatures each day. The start of activities on Friday morning may be dampened by fog and low clouds, but by afternoon, the clouds should lift and leave mostly sunny skies the rest of the day. Saturday could have some fog to start the day, but it should lift within a few hours of sunrise. The chance of morning fog is lower on Sunday, but it can't be ruled out entirely. Temperatures will be pleasant through the event, from the upper 60s on Friday to lower 70s on Sunday.
By: Harris Cooley Low pressure over the area will keep clouds in the forecast through the weekend as moisture content will be high. Wind speeds will be quite low with temps staying constant around the upper 50's. Cloud coverage and mild temps could bring some grip issues as tires will have a harder time staying warm, let along if any drizzle falls on the track. Sunshine is expected to poke through for Sunday afternoon though so that will be important to keep an eye on as race time nears.
